Sensing Technologies

RFID Read/Write Heads

Whether documenting maintenance or tracing entire production processes, hazardous location-certified RFID read/write heads and RFID tags from Pepperl+Fuchs can be used in a variety of applications. Pepperl+Fuchs’ standard RFID portfolio features high-performing components in a wide array of cube and cylindrical enclosures for efficient process implementation. RFID tags come in all standard ranges (LF, HF, and UHF), can be mounted on metal surfaces, and are engineered to withstand high-stress environments.

Patented 2:1 Technology

Pepperl+Fuchs’ patented 2:1 technology provides potential savings of up to 50% on sensor wiring needs in hazardous areas. The technology enables signals from NAMUR sensors to be transmitted in pairs to a control device via one line. This can save money and space by reducing sensor wiring. 2:1 technology can also be used for system enhancements that involve routing additional signals via existing and possibly at-capacity field wiring. Additionally, Pepper+Fuchs provides this technology in sensor and valve interface modules for fieldbus applications.

F31K2 Valve Position Sensor

The ruggedized F31K2 from Pepperl+Fuchs is designed to monitor the valve position of valve actuators reliably and contact-free, no matter the conditions. The double sensor combines two inductive sensors a high visibility beacon for local on/off position indication in one modular package. Enclosed in rugged, translucent plastic, the inductive sensors and their components are protected from moisture, mechanical vibration, impact, and UV light. This dual mechanical protection ensures maintenance-free operation and that sensors can withstand temperatures from -40 °C to +75 °C.

Cable Protection System

For many applications, safety requirements apply not only to the sensors in use, but also to the cabling. The cable protection system from Pepperl+Fuchs is a perfectly coordinated portfolio of sensor adapters, cable conduit, and cable glands that has been engineered to meet the safety requirements of automated process applications in harsh environments. Designed for all standard cylindrical sensors, these components can withstand tensile strain, chemicals, mechanical impact, pressure, high temperatures, and stresses from moving parts.

Explosion Protection Products

Bebco EPS® 7500 Purge and Pressurization System

The Pepperl+Fuchs Bebco EPS® Type Z/Ex pzc 7500 series purge and pressurization system is a universally powered and globally certified system for Zone 2/22 and Div. 2 hazardous areas. It not only provides purged pressurization protection—it also continuously monitors enclosure conditions, makes automatic pressure adjustments, and provides an output alarm for reliable protection. Additionally, status LEDs show operation status with visibility from up to 70 feet away. With an extended temperature range of -40 °C to +70 °C and a rugged housing, the 7500 series is perfect for the oil and gas industry.

VisuNet IXD 2100 HMI

The VisuNet IXD 2100 HMI from Pepperl+Fuchs offers reliable performance in harsh environments. It can be used in direct sunlight and in temperatures of up to +60 °C, making it perfect for outdoor applications. Its 19-inch, high-brightness display has an optically bonded touch screen that reduces glare and provides high image quality. A marine-grade aluminum body prevents corrosion in rain, snow, and marine environments. The 50-pound VisuNet IXD has a modular design that consists of a power supply, display, and computer, and it is certified for ATEX/IECEx Zone 1/21 hazardous locations.

VisuNet RM Shell 5 Firmware

VisuNet Remote Monitors are equipped with the latest generation of firmware—VisuNet RM Shell 5—for Pepperl+Fuchs’ thin client solutions. The firmware is pre-installed and pre-configured for various control systems, which makes implementation quick and easy. Based on Microsoft® Windows® 10 IoT Enterprise LTSB, the VisuNet RM Shell 5 includes long-term security updates and security mechanisms for malware and virus protection.

Viator® HART Modems

Viator® HART modems are a reliable solution for commissioning and servicing HART devices. Viator interfaces are available in both general-purpose and hazardous-location models and serve as a perfect link between a PC or handheld and HART-capable devices. They are easy to use, portable, and have advanced features that provide support to technicians working with field devices. Each modem is easy to connect and use, and all models are made of durable, industrial-grade polycarbonate and are compatible with 32- and 64-bit Windows® 7, 8, XP, 10, or Vista.

EJB/GUB Ex d / Explosion-Proof Certified Enclosures

Ex enclosures are a cost-effective solution for explosion protection. They allow standard components to be placed in harsh and hazardous environments, providing optimal protection for any installation. The flame-proof and explosion-proof enclosures are available in copper-free aluminum or stainless steel. With increased corrosion resistance, a range of sizes, and diverse certifications and approvals, EJB and GUB enclosures are designed for harsh applications like those in the oil and gas industry.

Type 4X Rated Cable Glands

Every component located in harsh environments needs to withstand the elements, including extreme temperatures, corrosive chemicals, and mechanical stresses. Pepperl+Fuchs’ Type 4X rated cable glands are designed for use in Div. 2 and Zone 1/21, 2/22 applications. The cable glands are available for hazardous areas and general industry, can accommodate armored and non-armored cabling, and are now available in nickel-plated brass and stainless steel. With the new Type 4X rating, glands that are ATEX and IECEx certified and UL Listed are now offered by Pepperl+Fuchs.

K-System Interface Technology

Pepperl+Fuchs’ K-System interface technology offers the broadest product range of its kind and has the right solution for every requirement in the process industry. Ex and non-Ex models can be easily snapped onto a DIN mounting rail and connected to the Pepperl+Fuchs Power Rail®, for power and diagnostic messaging. K-System isolators offer control elements on the front of the device and removable terminal blocks for wiring on the control and field sides, making them user-friendly and easy to service. The modules are available in a 12.5 mm wide KC version and a 20 or 40 mm wide KF version.

Intrinsically Safe Mobile Devices

Smart-Ex® 02 Smartphone

Smart-Ex® 02 is the world’s first Div. 1 and Zone 1/21 certified intrinsically safe smart phone that meets Google’s Android Enterprise Recommended (AER) requirements. It has global CSA, ATEX, and IECEx certifications and an extended temperature range, making it reliable in even the harshest applications. Smart-Ex 02 can connect to networks from around the world because it supports 21 LTE frequency brands and has no SIM lock. The Android 9 operating system enables efficient operation in harsh environments.

Ex-Camera CUBE 800

The CUBE 800 is a hands-free camera that magnetically attaches to hard hats and headbands so mobile workers can capture visuals in hazardous locations. Its dual cameras offer thermal and optical modes. The thermal imaging camera provides infrastructure health analysis and trending information, while the optical camera provides HD images and video. When paired with an Onsight Connect enabled mobile device, such as the Smart-Ex® 02, the camera can be used to share live videos and images or store them securely offline.

Smart-Ex® Watch

Mobile workers in hazardous locations need the best protection. The ecom Smart-Ex® Watch provides more protection for employees and enables them to communicate hands-free on the job. This intrinsically safe smartwatch is designed for use in Zone 2 and Div. 2 areas and can transmit worker location, movement, and health status. The Smart-Ex Watch is resistant to extreme temperatures, impact, and mechanical vibration and offers hands-free navigation via voice and wrist gestures. The powerful battery has a life of 5 days, and the GPS can be used for up to 28.5 hours without being recharged.
