Protecting you and your equipment is very important as it intertwines with safety. For instance, you could be detecting the rpm of a conveyor. Very simple, right? Or you could be monitoring the rotational speed of a wind turbine. From the basics to the technical, the main purpose of a rotary encoder is to see how fast your system is moving. With easy incremental encoders, the rotational speed and the direction can be determined. With more advanced encoders such as absolute encoders, the exact position of the machine can be detected, such as a mechanical robot arm.
Without the use of rotary encoders, the location of a machine’s components cannot be determined; as a result, the machine would crash. Encoders relate their rotational position with the rest of the system so that an accident or failure doesn’t occur. Isn’t that lovely?
